You’re supposed to rap because you think you’re the hottest. You’re supposed to rap because you think you’re the best. It’s the whole reason anybody raps and competes. Anybody who competitively raps, you’re supposed to think that. It’s just lines. It’s just fucking rap.

Yelawolf on Shady Records Family: ‘We Got the Hardest Crew.’

After recently signing to Eminem’s Shady Records, Yelawolf is feeling confident about the crew’s abilities. The Alabama rapper, who’s spearheading the label’s second generation alongside rap group Slaughterhouse, spoke on the collective’s recent collaboration “2.0 Boys” and how the Shady squad is packed with lyrical titans.

“Artistically, those dudes are monsters,” he told Music Choice. “MC-wise, I’m a longtime fan of hip-hop, and especially this ’2.0’ track, just the delivery on everybody’s part, I just felt like who [can beat us]?”

He proclaimed that when it comes to other rap crews, there’s little competition. “There might be some underground crews that might be coming close, but these dudes don’t work,” he boasted. “I’m a songwriter. I make conceptual projects, and I’ve never been in the battle world. All of those guys have. All of them. I come from a different part of the world, but regardless of that, artistically and creatively, we got the hardest crew, and that’s the end of that.”

The “Pop the Trunk” MC noted that few of the label’s hip-hop peers have the bite to back their bark. “Unless Dungeon Family comes back… You got Cee Lo and [André] 3000, Big Boi… That’s a monster crew. Wu-Tang is a monster crew. Hieroglyphics is a monster crew,” he stated. “But we are a monster crew. And any other new crew? Nah.”

After months of speculation, Shady Records has finally signed Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf. The union was immortalized on the cover XXL, which goes on newsstands February 8th. Below, Eminem discusses the new signees.
“Yelawolf and Slaughterhouse, it’s kinda phase two of Shady,” says Eminem. “It’s the new generation of Shady Records and as we’re trying to rebuild our label, it’s exciting for hip-hop and with all of these forces coming together and with what everybody’s capable of on the mic, it’s gonna be fun.”As far as Yelwolf is concerned:“Considering where I’m from and the shit I’ve been through, it’s hard to put into words what partnering with Shady means to me, my team at Ghet-O-Vision, and my state of Alabama. I can tell you that when you’re willing to give yourlife up to see a dream through, the reward is great. And now that I’ve become anapprentice to one of the greatest artists in the world, my potential reaches beyond anything I ever imagined. Let’s kill this shit.”
